This story actually isn’t too surprising. From an employer’s point of view, the efforts it takes to take people through formal lay-offs, is hard work. If you expose some of the things you do on social media you are making it easy for your employer to find offences. For example, you called in sick, went to a event and then post something on your Facebook page, could really land you in trouble.
I always advice my career coaching clients to type their own name in Google or double check their online profiles to make sure all information is above board. I am sure that picture of you being drunk on your stag night brings back some nice memories, but your future employer might think different about your personality when he sees that picture on Facebook.
