The job market for UK graduates isn’t nearly as bad as expected, although many college grads are still settling for unskilled or underemployed types of work. 62% of graduates manage to find jobs within half a year of graduating, versus 9% that remain unemployed. Almost 15% of them have remained in school for a higher degree, in hope that the job market will settle by the time they finish.
Job availability seems to be segregated by location, with larger cities such as Manchester and Birmingham offering the most positions. Those who studied in the field of science are able to land jobs in areas such as Oxfordshire and Cambridgeshire. Even with this, however, may grads are taking jobs in the retail and food service sector.
