The trickledown effect of an economy in recession is felt not only by workers and homeowners, but by those in higher education as well. Since 2011, education budgets nationwide have been cut by over 1 billion dollars – leading to a decrease in teaching positions. The amounts of professorships available represent little more than a fraction (10%) of those who receive their doctorate degrees.
