Should people working in London be paid extra during the Olympics?

Due to recent threats of strikes by transit workers in London as the city gears up for the upcoming Olympics, the TfL has offered up significant bonuses to its transit workers. It is hoped that this will be enough of a compensation to keep union members on the job during what are expected to be both extra and longer than usual shifts during which readership will be tremendously increased and the system as a whole will be under extra pressure to run smoothly.
