Unfortunately some more bad news, this time Bombardier needs to let go 1430 people due to missing out on the Thameslink project.
The government claimed that Siemens is more value for money. This is an important factor in decision making. We also need to mention that 300 jobs will be created by Siemens to work on the trains.
It seems that a net loss of 1130 jobs is on the cards. So let’s get back to value for money. Has the cost of 1100 job seekers been calculated when the decision was made? How big was that gap really? Because if there is a significant gap maybe Bombardier needs to review how it works to be more competitive.
